Christina Kallas is a Greek-American filmmaker based in New York and Berlin. Her feature film 'Paris is in Harlem' will premiere in Park City in January 2022. It was one of only six feature films selected for Slamdance International Film Festival's prestigious Breakouts slate, featuring films by "directors who demonstrate a determined vision of filmmaking that is distinctly their own. These artists continue to push the boundaries of filmmaking, creating their own genres and forms." The film is the third installment in the filmmaker's NY Trilogy, following critically-acclaimed ensemble dramas '42 Seconds of Happiness' (Fox/Tubi, 2016) and 'The Rainbow Experiment' (Paramount+, 2018.) New York based Christina Kallas is also known as the writer-producer of the John Hurt starring, Golden Berlin Bear nominated political thriller 'The Commissioner'.Lauded as a '21st Century Rashomon', 'The Rainbow Experiment had an impressive run at festivals such as Moscow, Slamdance, Cinequest, Cleveland and St. Louis, winning several accolades. In 2016, Kallas scored on the film festival circuit with her award-winning feature, '42 Seconds Of Happiness'. Prior credits include BBC Films' and Polygram's hooligan drama 'I.D.'; Toronto and Berlin selection hybrid narrative/doc 'Mothers'; and European TV series 'Danni Lowinski' and 'Edel&Starck'. Kallas's films have played festivals around the world, including the Berlin Film Festival, Toronto, Moscow, Las Palmas and FIRST Int'l in China. In 2019 she was nominated for Film Threat's inaugural Award This! Best Directress Award alongside Debra Granik, Angie Wang, Josephine Decker, Chloe Zhao, Jen McGowen and Mimi Leder.Christina Kallas has taught in several distinctive film programs over the years-including the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin, Columbia University's School of the Arts, Barnard College and the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema-and is also known as author of books such as 'Creative Screenwriting: Understanding Emotional Structure' and 'Inside the Writers' Room'. She was the President of the FSE, the European equivalent of the Writers Guild of America, for eight consecutive years and was honored for her outstanding contribution to the international writers' community. She has served as chair of film funds such as the German Federal Film Board FFA and the Balkan Fund. She is a member of the European Film Academy and of the German Film Academy.
