Annie Ernaux, is a French author and professor of literature. She was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 2022 "for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory". Her literary work, mostly autobiographical, maintains close links with sociology. Annie Ernaux started her literary career in 1974 with "Les Armoires vides" (Cleaned Out), an autobiographical novel. Very early in her career, she turned away from fiction to focus on autobiography. "A Woman's Story, A Man's Place", and "Simple Passion" were recognized as The New York Times Notable Books, and "A Woman's Story" was a Finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize. She was nominated for the International Booker Prize in 2019 for her book "The Years". A couple of her novels have been filmed and she directed "Les années Super-8" (2022) - Home videos shot by Ernaux and her family from 1972 to 1981 and feeds into the themes of her work over the past 60 years. She was married to Philippe Ernaux 1964-1985. They have two children, David and Eric.
