Alex Hammond is a Mexican-American independent filmmaker based in NYC and Mexico City.Her feature debut, Children of Haiti, examines the lives of street kids in the northern city of Cap-Haitian, it premiered at the Museum of Modern Art, screened in festivals worldwide, and aired on PBS's Independent Lens series. (2011) She produced and co-directed the feature documentary Better Than Something: Jay Reatard, (2012) hailed as the "best rock-doc of the year" by AV Club and IFC. Her third feature documentary, Lucha Mexico, (2016) that captures the stories of the biggest stars in lucha libre, and following an international festival run, it was acquired by Kino Lorber and released theatrically on VOD in North America, Netflix worldwide, and Starz Network.In addition to these films, Hammond has produced and directed over a dozen shorts and music videos. Her most recent short film was featured at the Cannes Court Métrage, (2019) she is also in post-production of feature documentary, Lucha Mexico: Round Two, and directing a short thriller set in Mexico. (2021)Hammond received her BFA in Film Production from California Institute of the Arts. She frequently collaborates with filmmaker Ian Markiewicz .
