Since the fatal diving accident of his father, Théo is a shy nerd, terrified by water, living in poverty with brother Fabrice and mother, about to be evicted as she can't pay the rent. He and class buddy Bonav(enture) are bullied especially by coolest senior Erwan. Once more alone in the library, Théo learns about the forbidden books section 'hell' and sneaks out the 'grimoire' (magic manual) of 'red magic'. The nerds pay Erwan's equally haughty girlfriend Laura to help them, as trained flutist, performing a complex ritual. She was supposed to leave before anything happens, but hid on the roof and witnesses how a ring is forged which renders the wearer invisible and forces herself upon them. The boys dream of using it for pranks like spying in the showers and Theo's mission, proving that his mother didn't commit the theft she was fired for, but things go very wrong. The grimoire is stolen by a man with a trained monkey, the rightly thieving-suspected Boucher sisters get hold of the ring, and that disables him from returning to normal, which may become permanent after a lunar cycle. Their only hope is experienced magician Sigmar Arkandias, who was after the book.
